Mgr. Naďa Satková, Ph.D. researcher

The main focus of Naďa’s academic interest is the history of theatre in the second half of the 20th century. She focuses on artistic, operational and production issues of the Czechoslovak theatre in this period and explores characteristic phenomena and processes that directors in repertory theatres generally had to deal with, namely: making repertoire plans and the process of their official approval, the consequences of 1968 for the arts sphere, and the specifics of reviewing regional theatres.

She also deals with contemporary British drama and theatre historiography. Her study about Joe Penhall’s plays was published in the peer-reviewed Revue Theatralia (2013); her study about Orpheus Descending directed by Jiří Svoboda was published in Divadelní revue (2015). She actively participated in several conferences, for instance Czech and Slovak Scenography for Shakespeare (Hull), REC: ON stage (Vilnius), Teatrologia na rozdrożach (Katowice), Teatr wśród mediów (Toruń), and Theatre Communities. Community Perspectives in Contemporary Theatre-making (Xewkija).

Her chapter called Manipulation of Reality Through an Interactive Game: Remote X as an Example of New Modes of Spectatorship in the Marco Galea’s and Szabolcs Musca’s book Redefining Theatre Communities. International Perspectives on Community-Conscious Theatre-Making was published by Intellect and The University of Chicago Press.

Naďa took part in the Summer School of Ancient Greek Theatre and Drama in Epidauros (Greece, 2013). She completed a research fellowship at Katedra Teatru i Dramatu, Uniwersytet Jagielloński (Kraków, Poland, 2014). She also works as an editor and teaches the course history of theatre.
