Mgr. Jiřina Hofmanová researcher

Jiřina Hofmanová studies in a doctoral programme at the Department of Theatre Studies (Masaryk University Brno), which has been her alma mater since the beginning of her studies. She focuses primarily on two fields in her research – Czech theatre in the 20th century and theatre criticism.

Her research on the history of Czech theatre is now occupied by the time of the Communist regime (1948–1989). It is so because of her dissertation, which deals with the so-called normalization period (1968–1989) and its theatre culture with an emphasis on staging plays of A. P. Chekhov. She’s been active theatre critic since 2011. She was an executive editor of two online platforms – RozRazil online (2013–2015), KriTh – Kritické theatrum (2016–2018). She was also an editor or editor in chief in many festival magazines. Now she mainly publishes theatre reviews in printed media (currently kød – konkrétne o divadle, previously Divadelní noviny or Literární noviny). Her curriculum was lately enriched by lecturing of critical seminars, which allows her to combine practical and theoretical knowledge and to add insights into the history of Czech theatre criticism.
